Saving New Amsterdam

A community effort to give the series a second chance.

FOX decided to cancel New Amsterdam on May 10th, 2008. While the odds looked slim, fans believed Regency Television could find another home for the show — provided the network heard from a vocal, visible community before cast and crew moved on to other projects.

The result was the "Vintage Postcard" campaign: a coordinated, charming, and very New York way of telling FOX and Regency Television that the show still mattered to its audience.

How the Campaign Worked

Four simple steps any fan could take from home.

  1. Step 01

    Pick a Postcard

Choose a vintage New York-themed postcard — landmarks, skylines, sepia street scenes, or anything that feels like old Manhattan.

  2. Step 02

    Write Your Message

Add a short, polite note about why New Amsterdam deserves another season and what the show means to you.

  3. Step 03

    Address It

Send the postcard to FOX and Regency Television so both offices received a visible stack of fan mail.

  4. Step 04

    Spread the Word

Tell other fans to send their own. The bigger the pile on the desk, the louder the message.

Postcards could be ordered from outside retailers or created at home — the only rule was that they look and feel like classic New York.
